Meet Jazmyn, our New Urban Ecology Intern

March 2, 2018

My name is Jazmyn and I am in my third year as an Environmental Studies student at Sacramento State University. I am currently an intern with the Urban Ecology department at the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

Over Summer breaks as a kid I loved our family camping trips. This is where my love for all things trees began! I am so excited for the knowledge and experience Sacramento Tree Foundation has in store for me. My favorite part of growing up in Sacramento were all the different trees here. Walking home from middle school I was shaded by the enormous branches and leaves.

Since then I have developed a passion for science and the environment. Currently, I'm working on a restoration project at Bushy Lake behind Cal Expo. Here I am working to restore understory species that utilize trees as a canopy. In addition to this, I'm looking to help protect the Western Pond Turtle against invasive species like the Red-Eared Slider Turtles. I am so happy that the Sacramento Tree Foundation has opened their arms to me and welcomed me in. I have met so many amazing and smart people in the short time I have been here.

I am so grateful to be able to learn so much about all the programs in place through the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Hopefully I can use my passion for trees and the world around them to include my community more. Let’s go SacTree!
