Adventure calls!

On a sunny, Saturday morning in Rancho Cordova, 30 volunteers joined the Sacramento Tree Foundation, 50 Corridor TMA, and Bike Lab for a canopy-covered, 11-mile, bike ride. Starting off at the Rancho Cordova Farmers Market, volunteers prepped their ride with stretching and a safe riding pep talk.

And so, it begins…

The group began their travels by heading east along the Folsom Canal Bikeway. On their route, volunteers learned about the local manmade canal, and the importance of biodiverse spaces! Next, they rode along the connecting segment through the American River Parkway for a tree tour. During this portion of the ride, folks explored the ecological effects of trees and the difference between native trees and impacted trees. Finishing off this round-trip by heading south along the Sunrise Corridor Bikeway, volunteers engaged in thoughtful conversations about our local riparian ecosystem along the American River Parkway.

Riparian ecosystems refer to the transitional areas between bodies of water and land that are typically covered in shrubs and trees. These valuable riparian areas are crucial to our environment as they attract diverse wildlife, can improve water quality, and are efficient in maintaining the terrestrial structure along the water. As the event came to an end, volunteers wrapped up the rest of their morning by stopping by the Rancho Cordova Farmers Market for a bite to eat after an exciting ride along the river.
