Blue oak
Quercus douglasii

This hardy yet elegant tree is native to California and is essential to California’s iconic oak woodland ecosystems, especially where they dot our hillsides. Its blue-green leaves drop in the fall but can occasionally drop sooner in very dry years. Blue oaks are well-adapted to California’s dry climate - they prefer dry soils and do not like to be over-watered.
