The Fuyu Jiro persimmon is an easy-care ornamental edible for the home garden that has no serious pests or diseases and requires no complicated pruning to produce good fruit. Broad leaves fill out a lush, verdant canopy that turns bright orange in fall. Edible fruit ripens in fall, often hanging on branches after the tree after leaves fall. This type of persimmon can be eaten raw like an apple and is slightly crunchy when ripe; it is not the gooey astringent type. Fruit will be seedless unless another persimmon is nearby. Needs full sun and well-drained soil.
