The Bear River Habitat Trail project has been funded by a $468,523 grant from the California Natural Resources Agency. This Environmental Enhancement Mitigation Program (EEMP) grant will focus on the community of Plumas Lake in Yuba County and will create a multi-use trail. This new habitat corridor and multi-use trail will provide wildlife with connections between the Algodon Slough and the Bear River while supporting active recreation, nature study and future connections to the regional bikeway.

Opportunities to be involved kick off in mid-October: review and provide input on project plans, assist with outreach and community engagement and, of course, join us as we plant more than 5,000 native trees, shrubs and forbs along the new trail.

This will be a unique opportunity to grow community and public greenspace in the community of Plumas Lake. The improved trail will also provide an important link in the Yuba County bike trail network – providing alternative methods of transportation and outdoor recreation to the community.

Working with Yuba County, local residents, and students, the Tree Foundation will begin planting trees and other native vegetation in November 2015. When complete, the project will establish more than 5,000 new native plants and will open access to a fully accessible multi-use trail.
