Growing a greener Folsom together

Folsom volunteer laughs while liberating the root ball of a new tree

This past December was a busy month for SacTree and the City of Folsom. On December 2nd the volunteers and residents planted 29 trees in the Natomas Heights and Perazzo neighborhoods–two historically under-canopied neighborhoods. The following weekend, the Tree Foundation hosted our annual Folsom Reforestation project with a tree planting along Mangini Parkway and Rock Springs Ranch Drive. At the event, volunteers planted over 48 oak saplings and 20 more were planted by the SacTree urban ecology team the next week. These exciting projects are just two of many projects to come in the effort to expand and steward the urban forest across the City of Folsom.

A community-led collaboration
Folsom volunteers work together to tie tree ties to support stakes on newly-planted trees.

Our work in Folsom is possible thanks to our partnership with the City of Folsom’s Community Development Department. Through this partnership, The Tree Foundation has hosted multiple tree plantings and tree care events throughout the city, coordinated reforestation efforts, and brought the health benefits and beauty of trees to neighborhoods through our free shade tree program. We’ve also supported annual community events such as Trail Days and Community Service Day, alongside Friends of Folsom Parkways and the Folsom Parks and Recreation department. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and residents, we planted 54 trees in neighborhoods throughout Folsom. Thanks to our successful collaboration and team effort, we will continue to do amazing work together!

What’s next for Folsom?

With our ongoing partnership with the City of Folsom and the support of community members, we will continue to help grow, care for, and expand Folsom’s tree canopy. The Tree Foundation is planning additional tree plantings, tree care workshops, and other educational opportunities for community members to get involved in.
