Making an impact in Rancho Cordova

November 8, 2023

A group of volunteers prepare to plant a new tree in front of an apartment building. Three volunteers work on digging a hole while two work on liberating the root ball of the tree.

The Sacramento Tree Foundation has been hard at work bringing trees to under-canopied neighborhoods across the city of Rancho Cordova. Earlier this month, 44 trees were planted in the South White Rock neighborhood at the Cobblestone and Rockingham apartments. This event was one of the biggest community planting events the city and the Tree Foundation have completed in 2023. Not only did these trees transform the landscape, they gave volunteers and residents the opportunity to make positive changes in their neighborhoods and create a more vibrant and healthier environment.

Partnerships for green success

We couldn’t have done this work without the tremendous effort of the Community Development and Public Works teams at the City of Rancho Cordova and the community members who volunteered their time to make this planting possible. This event is just one demonstration of the commitment that SacTree and the City of Rancho Cordova have to their Urban Forest Program, which aims to bring trees to underserved and under-canopied communities.

What’s next for Rancho Cordova?

Our work in Rancho Cordova is not done! This planting is a shining example of how community leaders, local government, and organizations can come together to make positive change. With the support from our partners and the community, the Tree Foundation will continue to plant trees in neighborhoods that need them the most. SacTree is also in the process of planning additional tree care workshops and community engagement events so community members can learn how to care for and steward our urban forest.
