On Saturday, November 22nd, a hearty team of volunteers braved the rain to clean up the Stonelake Community detention pond in Elk Grove, California.

The pond cleanup crew removed a total of 250 pounds of garbage from the area. Some volunteers even brought their own kayak and pulled the largest amount of garbage from inside the pond itself! 

This cleanup effort is supported by a generous grant from the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment as part of a Sacramento Tree Foundation initiative working to help the Stonelake Community be water wise, take simple actions, and use free services to keep the Sacramento River watershed healthy.

A second pond cleanup and native vegetation planting event will kick off this spring during Creek Week at Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in April 2015.
