Cork oak
Quercus suber
This lovely evergreen is most known for its spongy bark that is harvested in Mediterranean regions to create cork products. Cork oaks are quite resilient in times of drought and do not need very much water once established. Their rounded canopies and evergreen foliage make them great shade trees, and their beautiful bark texture gives them a distinctly rustic appearance.
