Deodar cedar
Cedrus deodara
This broad pyramid-shaped conifer is well known for its softly hanging branches that give it an elegant, bowing structure. Native to the western Himalayas and eastern Afghanistan, this cedar is well adapted to our dry climate and is a good substitute for the water-loving coast redwood. It can grow in a variety of soil types. This tree can easily grow up to 3 feet per year, maturing at heights of 40-60 feet.
