Goldenrain tree
Koelreuteria paniculata
Although we typically provide this tree, it is temporarily unavailable through our free tree program. It may be available for purchase from local nurseries.
The goldenrain tree is just as resilient as it is beautiful. It can survive a wide variety of soils, though it prefers good drainage, and is generally a low water user. It is known for its long chains of yellow flowers in the summer that earned it the name “goldenrain” but can also be identified by its coppery seed pods that hang on to its branches through the late summer and fall. Its flowers, seed pods, and the yellow fall color make it a great tree for those who like to watch the seasons come and go and don’t mind a few dropping flowers and seeds. The goldenrain is very similar to its cousin, the Chinese flame tree, but has more variable, lobed, leaves.
