Strawberry tree
Arbutus 'Marina'

This lovely evergreen is charmingly unique. The strawberry tree is named for its clusters of red berries that grow in the fall or winter, preceded by showy, pink, bell-shaped flowers in the spring. Its leaves are dark green and glossy and remain on the tree throughout the year. Not recommended near parking spaces or pools as this tree’s berries can be messy, though the low water use makes it easy to care for. May be Arbutus 'Marina' or Arbutus unedo depending on seasonal availability. The 'Marina' cultivar features manzanita-like bark that is distinctly smooth and red, peeling off in attractive strips as the tree matures. The species has a brown-gray peeling bark and fruits that are both yellow and red.
